The new year has long since come, and while our burgeoning family has been blessed many times over, we experienced a reality check as we witnessed the situation in Haiti. Utter devastation, hundreds of thousands dead, complete chaos, little food or medicine available - it puts into clear perspective just how fortunate and privileged we are. The people of that country are in our prayers, and we will definitely do what we can to contribute to the relief efforts being sent there.
Currently, we sponsor a child through World Vision. So it is only appropriate we recommend our friends, family, and readers to donate to this charitable organization as a legitimate and powerful agency of helping the people of Haiti. In more local news, Brendan is growing so quickly. He has said his first words ("Mama" and "Hello" - the latter he does with all sorts of inanimate objects he takes for our cell phones). He's still a picky eater, but he sleeps so well! We are so thankful for him, and to be honest I cannot help but giggle when I think of him. (Is it wrong that I find his cry to be incredibly adorable?? Probably so.)
What else? Brendan is back at Mother's Day Out, I'm still working at Windstream as the retail sales manager (it'll have been a year as of February), and Mary is painting amazing murals at Cross Pointe Church in the children's classrooms. She is quite talented! She has done several professional murals now, it's quite impressive. First the mural for Tigerland Church in Baton Rouge, then the Whole Foods' employee break room, then the play center for Heritage Ranch, and now these three. Perhaps this is the start of a famous career? (Let's hope!)
